The Haddock Surname

At first it may seem this could have a fishy origin, but in fact it is an Old English name 'Hadduc' which means prosperity. There is another possibility and this may well be the case in this family, it can be a derivation of the Welsh/Gaelic 'Leiddog' which can describe a barley farm or stretch of moorland. It is probably this connection that has today changed into Haydock which is a town close to Liverpool.

The Haddock Family

The earliest member of this family is John Haddock born in 1795 in Liverpool. His daughter Charlotte married William Briscoe. In 1841 the family is living in Birmingham though the name is spelt Hadduck.
