The Hogg Surname

The Hogg surname also appears as Hogge or in its diminutive forms of Hogget and Hoggin and is of Scottish origin. The first possibility was that is was an occupational surname for a swine-herd or even shepherd as hog was for a pig and hoggit for a young sheep. The second alternative is that it derived from the early English work 'Hoga' meaning careful or prudent and was applied to such people
