The McLuckie Surname

McLuckie is a Scottish surname and it is thought to be a variant of McLucas from the Gaelic Mac Lucais or son of Lucas.

The McLuckie Family

The McLuckie family in my tree originate in the Campsie, Sterlingshire, area of Scotland. Campsie is about 8 miles north of Glasgow and good records survive for the area. The earliest record is of John McLuckie born in about 1750 in Campsie. It was James McLuckie born in 1839 who moved down to Liverpool by 1877 when he married Davidina Isabella Ballardie, he was 38 years old at this time and it is thought this could have been his second marriage but data has not yet been located. It does not appear that James was married in 1861 as he is in the Scottish census as a boarder with James Stewart, a joiner, where he presumably was learning his trade as a Joiner. There is a family in Kirkdale, Liverpool in the 1871 census of James and Catharine McLuckie with daughter Margaret G that looks a strong possibility for James first marriage, but it has not yet been proved.

Mary McColl McLuckie was my maternal grandmother, she was born in Liverpool
